It is great pleasure that I, your head judge, am able to inform you that Mr. Dave Grant is back and involved. Dave went through some medical issues and had to step away from judging. With thanks to modern medicine and Dave’s resolve, he his back and ready to help us when and where he can.

The GSSCC Executive Board is very pleased to formally announce the successful completion of a Long Term Service Agreement between the GSSCC and DogSport Gear of Aldergrove BC.
The negotiations with the GSSCC Marketing Committee, captained by Ted Gerela took 6 months and involved discussions with 6 manufacturers of quality dog training equipment.
The 6 year partnership agreement provides financial support that will benefit all the members at every level.
In addition, DogSport Gear will provide blinds, dumbbells c/w stand, helper pants, sleeves and jackets, tracking articles for every championship, Regional and National.
The equipment will be utilized to generate funds to support the championships at every level. Dog Sport Gear will provide the Team Canada Uniforms for the WUSV World Championship Team.
Ted Gerela was quoted as saying that “this is only the beginning and with the members full support there is a great opportunity to use it as a template to build more partnerships”.

The Board is announcing that Dave Grant has taken a leave of absence from his role as GSSCC Head Judge as well as from active judging assignments. In his place the Board has appointed Doug Deacon who has graciously offered to step in to fill this position for the balance of the year. Good luck to Dave and thanks to Doug.
Congratulations to the following for achieving GSSCC helper certification at Newfoundland Schutzhund Club Helper certification held May 22-24 with teaching helper Darin Clarke : Alan Hewlett (Club), Brian Guay (Club), Brian Sulley (Front half club), Justin Pike (Club), Sue Rodgers (Club).
It saddens me to announce the passing of Mr. Terry Smith.
On May 4th, 2009 Ontario Region lost a very special colleague and friend to many, to his long battle with cancer.
Terry was a quiet man that kept to himself and family and never spoke ill of others.
Terry's passion for the GSD and K9 sports was a big part of his life. Being trial directed for the Ontario Region- director for the German Shepherd Club of Canada- Tracking council for CKC- director of Saugeen Schutzhund Club, director of London GSD club, are a small sample that come to mind. He always spoke of building bridges between these groups for the greater good of the total GSD.
He had a world of knowledge ranging from his pilot career with Air Canada- CKC tracking judge- to his mechanic’s shop- to the 29 K9 Bomb dog departments he organized, trained and deployed worldwide for 3M. He also went on high profile search and rescue missions abroad many times solo, all because he was told that those people needed help. He always put the needs of other before his own. Even until the very end, motivating and supporting others in reaching their goals was all that was talked about, never his declining condition.
The last three months Terry spent organizing repairs to any deficiencies in their home, so that he wouldn’t be leaving Sharon with needed renovation concerns.
He was truly the type of man that you wanted yourself to be or others to be more like. Terry was a great leader, mentor and coach to many.
Terry was my colleague- my companion- fellow competitor and best friend. You will never be forgotten.

Trophy Sponsorship Challenge - This year the Lower Mainland and Winnipeg Working Dog Clubs are challenging all other clubs to join them in trophy sponsorships for this year's Championship.
We now have a new club on the block, though most of the members are already known to us all. It is the Pacific Schutzhund Dogsport Club who completed their accreditation trial on January 17, 2009. There are 11 members at this time,but I am sure that with the positive spirit in this club, it will grow. They have a very nice field in Mill Bay on Vancouver Island about 40 minutes from the schwartz bay Ferry terminal.
